'Parameter is Incorrect' Error

This is a problem with the DRM (Digital Rights Management) component of Windows Media Player. To resolve this, you'll have to reset the DRM. Below are directions for Windows XP, and then Windows Vista & Windows 7 users. Please choose the correct steps for your operating system.

Resetting the DRM for Windows XP

1. First, you'll want to rename the DRM folder to DRM.old.

The location of this folder is  C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDRM.

If you don't see the folder, it may be 'hidden'. Please use the following steps to view hidden files and folders.

-In Windows Explorer go to Tools > Folder Options > View

-Under 'Hidden files and folders' heading, make the following changes:

  • Select 'Show Hidden Files and Folders'
  • Un-check 'Hide Protected Operating System Files'

-Click  'Apply to All Folders'. Now if you haven't, rename the DRM folder to " DRM.old "

2. In your OverDrive Media Console program, re-run the Windows Media Player Security Upgrade by going to  'Tools' at the top, then Windows Media Player Security Upgrade... and following the steps.

Resetting the DRM for Windows Vista or Windows 7

1. Open the 'Control Panel'.

2. Open 'Folder Options' and select the 'View' tab.

3. Select 'Show hidden files and folders'.

4. Uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files'.

5. In the warning message you receive, click 'Yes'.

6. Click 'OK'.

7. Close the Control Panel

8. Click the Start button. In the 'Start Search' box, paste the following: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM

9. Press 'Enter'.

10. Delete ONLY the following 4 files:

  • blackbox.bin
  • drmstore.hds
  • v3ks.bla
  • v3ks.sec

In your OverDrive Media Console program, re-run the Windows Media Player Security Upgrade by going to  'Tools' at the top, then Windows Media Player Security Upgrade... and complete following the steps.

The iDevice Tutorial can be located on this site under Services > OverDrive (Audio & eBooks)  > Training.

1. Set up the ACC Import settings. (Please refer to the iDevice Tutorial for this).

2. In iTunes, if your device is plugged in, click on your device on the left hand side. the Summary screen should display.

Under Options should be  Enable Disk Use. Check this box, then click Apply

This should allow you to transfer Audiobooks successfully to your iPod Shuffle!
